HERE’S WHY WE NEED MORE WOMEN LIKE ANNIE KHALID IN OUR SOCIETY!
Life as a woman isn’t easy. It gets more hard when you’re a celebrity. People are watching your every move and they expect you to live your life their way. The way they want to see you. As a woman in our society, you have no right to take big steps in your life. People will quickly jump to the conclusions and will do anything to find flaws in you.
Annie Khalid the famous Pakistani pop singer faced a similar situation when she escaped an abusive relationship in 2012. She was abused and insulted just for taking a divorce.
Luckily, Annie Khalid fell in love again and married her bestfriend in 2014. That’s when the people’s comments got out of hand and started abusing her on social media. Using inappropriate words for her just because she got remarried. She was bashed again when she shared the news of her pregnancy. People left mean comments asking her about the father of the baby. Annie ignored all this and embraced her baby girl with happiness and love. It was when she recently shared her wedding anniversary pictures and people started abusing her for them she finally took a stand and spoke for herself. This is what she wrote :
I think it’s a very common thing in our society where people are okay with men marrying four women at the same time but totally not okay when a woman wants to start over her life. In our society a woman is allowed to die in an abusive relationship but she isn’t allowed to get divorce let alone the remarriage part.
Even our other women play a big role in insulting and bullying a woman if she’s getting a divorce.
It worries me how random audience take so much intrest in other’s lives and find it their duty to bash them just because they can. Specially people of Pakistan are pretty rude on facebook and instagram. They leave mean comments on celebrities’ pictures. They don’t know that their one comment can ruin someone’s mood for the whole day.
Some of our men find it their religious duty to abuse girls on social media for posting their pictures even if the pictures are with their husbands. I request you all not to stay silent and raise your voice against it. I am so glad that Annie did the same! Enough is enough.
I respect Annie for sharing this post because here she is speaking up for EVERY woman that faces abuses and insults in our society just because she was brave enough to leave past in the past and moved forward. This is what we should teach our women! There’s nothing good in staying in an abusive relationship where your partner doesn’t give you anything else other than abuses and bruises.
We must teach our daughters to be brave enough to stand up for themselves and brave enough not to care about society’s taunts. We must teach them to speak back whenever it’s required. Staying silent means encouraging them to keep bullying women. Yes we must mind our own business and shouldn’t care about other’s opinions but we must stand up when it gets out of hand. Don’t stay silent. Don’t think “log kia kahengy” don’t think you have done something unusual so it’s normal to receive all those abuses and insults. Society will keep barking until you ask them to stop. Ask them stop!!! Do what Annie did. Speak up for your rights. It’s your life. You have a right to live it your way. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad. Here’s to our brave women. Who go through hell and then also have to fight with the society just because they are women!
Wishing Annie best of luck for her future. According to Annie, her husband is her bestfriend and he never uses her past against her. Annie Khalid was recently blessed with a beautiful daughter as well. MaashaAllah.
